Behavior Modification

Behavior Modification is the means to resolving behavioral issues. Behavior modification programs address the underlying reasons for the problem behaviors most notably: poor adrenaline management, adrenaline addiction, poor or no social skills, lack of trust, poor communication. Our program provides behavior modification for many unwanted behaviors including leash reactivity, threshold reactivity, barrier frustration, resource guarding, and separation anxiety. Tecla Walton will meet with owner and dog and evaluate the behavior that the dog is exhibiting as well as the relationship between the owner and dog. She will then implement an appropriate plan guiding owner and dog every step of the way. Tecla seeks to treat the whole dog. For this reason her behavioral plans address the entire spectrum of factors that affect behavior including: modifying nutrition, balancing the relationship between owner and dog, teaching good obedience through clear communication, improving leash communication, providing for positive social interactions in a safe environment, teaching relaxation techniques to reduce adrenaline dependency, and changing the dog’s perception of triggers. Tecla’s program is unique in that she blends private lessons, group classes, and socialization sessions to provide for individualized instruction as well as an opportunity for acquired skills to be practiced in a group environment when the dog is ready.
